For my entire life, I’ve always looked for ways to improve my health and well-being. Being athletic, it was second nature to continually look for ways to improve my health. I sought products, experiences and experts to keep me in peak condition. What I discovered is that wellness is less a final destination than it is an ongoing journey, full of new discoveries and deeply fulfilling moments of transformation. Life gets in the way of total well-being. We travel 20-miles to a favorite health food store only to be disappointed by a limited selection of overpriced products. We lose precious time on endless internet searches of multiple ecommerce sites in an attempt to find exactly the products we're looking for. We try in vain to keep up with the latest new wellness trends or to track down trusted practitioners and healers. Wellness seemed like a never-ending, uphill battle. In 2010, I started imagining how my experience of travelling the path of total well-being could be different. Better. I had a vision of a new type of marketplace, where I could find everything I need to live a healthy, intentional life, in line with my values. Around the same time that I was longing for a one-stop shop wellness platform, I also became a small business owner. On my path to optimizing my mind, body and spirit, I discovered I had a natural ability to help people balance and heal themselves through energy healing. Further, I had created the Energy T, a shirt infused with healing energy. I had so many positive responses from friends who wore the shirt that I wanted to get it into the hands of as many people as possible. But finding the right ecommerce platform proved frustrating. It was too easy to get lost in the crowd and no one catered specifically to wellness and spiritually-oriented business owners and service providers. I was also facing the stigma attached to anything spiritual. In my personal life, I knew how transformative a community of like-minded people could be in this regard, but I wasn’t finding it in the business world. I imagined a world where the journey to total well-being was easy and affordable. I imagined a platform where small business owners could make the world a better place, and where their gifts wouldn’t go unnoticed. I imagined a community where we could all make the journey together. So I created Mindful Market.
